Answer:

There are several things that one can do to become more independent while studying abroad. Here are some examples and reasons:

  1. Learn the local language: Learning the language of the country where you'll be studying will not only help you communicate better with locals but also help you understand and navigate the culture. It will also give you a sense of independence, as you won't have to rely on others for translation or interpretation.

  2. Take public transportation: Instead of relying on taxis or ride-sharing services, try to use public transportation such as buses, trains, or subways. This will help you save money and become more familiar with the city or town you're living in.

  3. Do your own laundry: Doing your own laundry may seem like a small thing, but it can help you feel more self-sufficient. It will also save you money and give you more control over your wardrobe.

  4. Manage your finances: Being responsible for your own finances will help you develop important life skills. Make a budget, keep track of your expenses, and learn how to save money. This will give you the freedom to make your own choices and prioritize your spending.

  5. Make friends with locals: While it's important to connect with other international students, don't forget to make friends with locals. This will give you a deeper understanding of the culture and help you feel more integrated into the community.

Overall, becoming more independent while studying abroad will not only make your experience more enjoyable but also help you develop important life skills that will benefit you in the future.

2. Work in groups. What skills do you think you will gain while studying abroad? Report your group’s answer fo the class.

  2. Adaptability: Studying abroad requires us to adapt to new environments, people, and customs. We may face unexpected challenges and need to learn how to be flexible and resilient.

  3. Communication skills: Living and studying in a foreign country can improve our communication skills, particularly in a multicultural context. We may need to communicate with people who speak different languages or have different communication styles.

  4. Problem-solving skills: Being in a new environment can test our problem-solving skills. We may need to find creative solutions to unfamiliar problems or navigate bureaucratic procedures in a foreign country.

  5. Independence: Living independently in a foreign country can help us develop self-reliance and decision-making skills. We may need to manage our own finances, navigate public transportation, or cook our own meals.
