Answer:

youthful - in his/her twenties: Sarah is a recent college graduate with a bright outlook on life. She exudes a youthful energy and enthusiasm for new experiences.

childish - acting like a child: Tim has a tendency to throw tantrums and pout when he doesn't get his way. His childish behavior often frustrates those around him.

mature - old enough to be responsible and make good decisions: Maria is a responsible adult who always makes thoughtful decisions. She is mature beyond her years and people often seek her advice.

middle-aged - not young or old (about 40-60): John is in his early 50s and has settled into a comfortable routine. He's not young anymore, but he's not old either. He's just middle-aged.

retired - stopped working full time (often after 65): After working for 40 years, Susan decided to retire and enjoy her golden years. She spends her days traveling, volunteering, and pursuing her hobbies.

elderly - looking and acting old: Frank is in his 80s and struggles to get around due to his physical limitations. He may look and act old, but he still has a wealth of life experience and wisdom to share.

energetic - older, but with the energy of a young person (positive): Despite being in his 70s, Jack remains as active and energetic as ever. He can often be found hiking, skiing, or engaging in other outdoor activities.

childish - older, but acting like a child (negative): Despite being in his 60s, Bob still acts like a teenager, often making impulsive decisions and neglecting his responsibilities.

B. Talk with a partner about people you know. How old are they? Describe them with adjectives from A.

• Youthful - In his/her twenties: My cousin Tom is very youthful. He's always trying new things and has an infectious energy that rubs off on everyone around him.

• Retired - Stopped working full time (often after 65): My neighbor Mr. Johnson is retired. He spends a lot of his time gardening and reading, and always has a friendly word for everyone in the neighborhood.

• Elderly - Looking and acting old: My great-grandmother is very elderly. She's in her late 90s and has trouble getting around, but she always has a positive attitude and loves to tell stories about her life.

• Energetic - Older, but with the energy of a young person (positive): My uncle Dave is in his 60s but still has the energy of someone half his age. He's always running marathons and doing triathlons and is an inspiration to us all.

• Childish - Older, but acting like a child (negative): My cousin Lisa is in her 40s but can be very childish at times. She throws tantrums when things don't go her way and often neglects her responsibilities.
